ALOHA!
The Balinese are master carvers of teak. Each village in Bali has an artistic craft that is passed down to each generation. Wood carvings and stone carvings are specialties.
All of the teak wood used for these carvings is from the 150 year old Temple that will be reconstructed near Pahoa. The left over wood is not structurally sound for building code but it is perfect for deep relief scene carvings, statues, wall hangings.

Each piece will come with two authentications for: the origin of the wood and for the lineage of the master carver. These are art quality pieces. Each will be priced based upon size and complexity of the design. Most of the designs will be traditional Balinese designs including goddess statues, epic scenes, buddhas, carved wall plaques.

Centuries ago, the unmistakable quality of teak was discovered on Java. What makes the 'Tectona Grandis' so wonderful as a species of tree is not just the wood it produces: while the worst types of weather wreak havoc on all other types of wood, it seems to have no effect whatsoever on teak. The most cutting of island winds, tropical storms and the scorching heat of the equatorial sun are the toughest quality tests nature can throw at teak. And thanks to its oily resin, teak remains totally durable, without any treatment to the wood, which always stays tough and unchanging in structure.

Why a teak? First, old wood is more stable than new, leading to fewer problems with swelling, splitting and warping. Second, much of the old, salvaged Teak is very high quality-- quality that you no longer find today. Much of it is old growth which is much more dense, tighter grained, and has a much richer color than new growth. And third, it is impossible to get the patina of aged wood from anything but old wood.

Here are some examples of what will be carved. Because the pieces will be carved over the next few months, you could commission a piece using your own design.
